Commercial and recreational fishing season opens

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced today commercial and recreational fishing seasons for the new year.

Commercial fishing seasons for gray triggerfish and greater amberjack will open in Mississippi waters on January 1^st.

The recreational season for red grouper will open in Mississippi waters on January 1^st. The recreational fishing season for gag will close at midnight on December 31^st.

The commercial season for sharks, like hammerheads, black tips, and small coastals, will open January 1^st.

The state season will run concurrent with the federal shark season in the western Gulf of Mexico sub-region.
